The Most Empowering Quote for Trauma Survivors
Updated: Jun 9, 2021

Today, a student in my Certified Trauma Recovery Coaching program shared this quote. It is by Sheree Bliss Tilsley and it's very empowering. I will not rescue you.
For you are not powerless.
I will not fix you.
For you are not broken.
I will not heal you.
For I see you, in your wholeness.
I will walk with you through the darkness.
As you remember your light. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT TRAUMA SURVIVORS NEED. Safe space to be seen and heard. When we bear witness to what a trauma survivor has suffered, we help them to not feel so alone. When we walk beside them, we can extend empathy, compassion, and grace. When they are struggling in the darkness, we may help them to find the light within themselves. Another inspiring quote is by Danielle Bernock who shares, "Trauma is personal. It does not disappear if it is not validated. When it is ignored or invalidated the silent screams continue internally heard only by the one held captive. When someone enters the pain and hears the screams healing can begin." According to Bessel Van Der Kolk, M.D., who is a trauma expert, doctor, and author of The Body Keeps the Score, "Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health; safe connections are fundamental to meaningful and satisfying lives." Today, no matter where you are in your healing journey, hold onto hope. Hope to process your pain. Hope to reduce your physical and emotional symptoms. Hope to find the courage to speak truthfully. Hope to take back your life; physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Hope to obtain emotional support. Hope to make healthy connections in new relationships. And hope to increase your overall quality of life. When you have hope, you have everything.
