Discovery Calls Versus Certified Trauma Recovery Coaching Sessions
Updated: Jan 5

Oftentimes, I am asked about the difference between a Discovery Call versus Certified Trauma Recovery Coaching sessions. In effort to clarify what both of my services are, this blog post is to build awareness and understand the major differences between a Discovery Call and Certified Trauma Recovery Coaching with me. I can guarantee, they are not the same.
Discovery Calls: They are a 30 minute meeting on Zoom.
The Purpose: The goal is for a potential client to get acquainted with me and vice versa. The purpose is to determine if we are an ideal match to work together. During our 30 minute meeting, the client has the opportunity to ask me questions about what I do, what I don't do, and how Certified Trauma Recovery Coaching works. Also, I can inquire about what the client is struggling with and what they would like to focus on when coaching with me in the future.
What a Discovery Call is Not: A 30 minute Discovery Call is not a time to rehash your past abuse. It is not meant for discussing graphic details about your trauma. It is not intended for lengthy conversations about your abuse story, your toxic relationships, your mental health, nor is it meant to unpack your trauma. A Discovery Call is not for asking me for advice; personal, legal, nor medical advice. I am not a consultant, nor a licensed therapist, psychiatrist, doctor, nor pharmacist. This isn't within my ethical scope of practice. Rather, I am more like your mentor, guide, and a good listener who offers you safe space.
How much is a Discovery Call? $25 for 30 minutes on Zoom. I accept electronic payments with Zelle, Venmo, and Stripe. Discovery Call Payments: I will send you an invoice. This requires you to give me your full name and email address linked to your electronic payment.
Pay Your Invoice: After I receive your payment, I will send you the Zoom links with the time and date for your 30 minute Discovery Call.
Discovery Session Policies: Honesty and transparency is essential. As a Certified Trauma Recovery Coach, I have firm, non-negotiable healthy boundaries for myself; professionally and personally. During each of my Zoom Discovery meetings, it is my policy and the International Association of Trauma Recovery Coaching ethics and mandated policies that each potential client is transparent in their true identity. It’s vital to create a positive, safe environment built on trust, transparency, and authenticity. Each person must reveal their true identity of who they are by using the video and audio share button to show themselves. This way, we can both see one another. I must visually see my clients to attune to them. It is how I read body language and I can be certain that my client is safe. If anyone disregards my Discovery Call Policies, the Zoom meeting will be terminated immediately. In addition, after breaking my policies and procedures, the client will not receive a refund. (This mandated coaching ethics and policy is also for my Certified Trauma Recovery Coaching sessions.)
What is a Certified Trauma Recovery Coaching Session? As a Certified Trauma Recovery Coach, I work with women and men, one on one, in private coaching sessions to help them gently unpack their trauma. During each of your one hour coaching sessions with me, I offer you safe space to be seen, heard, validated, and respected. It’s therapeutic and empowering when you give voice to your true story of everything you have suffered. Whether you choose a single one hour coaching session or a coaching package with me (1 or 3 month coaching), you receive one hour/each of Certified Trauma Recovery Coaching with me via Zoom. One month coaching is 4 one hour Zoom sessions with me. Three month coaching is 12 one hour Zoom sessions with me.
Client-led Coaching: When you work with me, a trauma-informed specialist in mental health, each session is client-led. Simply stated, this is YOUR life, YOUR choice, and YOUR decision on what topics that you prefer to discuss with me. All conversations amongst you and I are confidential and private.
Nonjudgmental Coaching: As a Certified Trauma Recovery Coach, Life Purpose Coach, and Book Coach, I work with ALL walks of life. Regardless of your gender, race, religion or lack of religion, lifestyle choices, and your personal beliefs, each client is deserving to receive the utmost of respect, dignity, and professionalism within my CTRC practice. I take this very seriously in my code of ethics.

Hopefully, today's blog post has helped you to better understand what a Discovery Call is versus what Certified Trauma Recovery Coaching is. To know in advance what I do versus what I don't do within my CTRC business. In my coaching business, I do use discretion and I trust my gut instincts when determining if a potential client is an "ideal match" to work with me. I prefer clients who are honest, respectful of me, who are committed to themselves and their healing journey, who are open to working on their recovery goals, and who show up on time for each of our sessions.
If you have questions or if you are interested in a 30 minute Discovery Call, or signing up for Certified Trauma Recovery Coaching with me, it requires an electronic payment.
