Finding a new home that permitted large pets took serious calls and inquiries in order for my family to move. Losing 10 lbs. over the past year never would have been a possibility had I not made healthy changes. Of course, I had some help along the way through natural supplements, but I still had to make it happen by taking them consistently. Writing three books from start to finish took a whole lot of blood, sweat, and tears. Oh, and don't forget the fervent prayers of a woman who trusts her calling to write.
For those who believe that all you need to do is pray, I want to challenge you today to rethink that idea. Have you been praying about something? Waiting for answers? My belief is that prayer is powerful, but we must not sit back and expect God to move mountains, while we do nothing at all. Sometimes the Lord says to sit still. Other times He asks us to step out to take action.
Faith without action is dead...
The Bible reminds us that we are to not only have faith, but to take action. "What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don't show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?" (James 2:14 NLT)
"So you see, faith by itself isn't enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless." (James 2:17 NLT)
On occasions, we let fear, laziness, and discouragement paralyze us. We become inactive. Usually, when we neglect to hear that soft voice whispering to us to keep moving, we start sinking lower and lower. So we pray harder, louder, and longer. Yet we can't figure out why the Lord has not answered our prayers.
Could it be that He is waiting for us to take the first step?
No matter what we desire or how long we must travel to obtain it, we can make it happen by doing our part. Whether we want to improve our relationships, increase our income, lose weight, get healthy, or find our dream job, we can set daily goals for ourselves. For me, it's easier to break down a large goal into chunks of smaller goals. It's more doable and simplified.
Most important of all, goals are not goals, unless we write them down. Otherwise, it's just a wish. By taking action, being accountable, and tracking our progress, we can achieve anything we set our minds to. If we slip up or get stuck, which is part of self-growth, we must be determined to dust ourselves off, stand back up, and keep moving.
Despite the obstacles that we may cross along our paths, it will take perseverance and determination to reach the other side. If we want to make it happen, we need to believe in our highest aspirations. We must believe in our own selves. To go the long haul. To climb that steep mountain even during backbreaking moments of hard work. Will it be easy? Probably not. Will it be worth it? Most definitely!
Today, what can you do to draw closer to accomplishing your goals? How can you make it happen with what you already have? I encourage you to create an action plan. Decide what your next step is even if it's an itty bitty baby step. Be your own cheerleader to keep the momentum going. Give yourself a pat on the back for both small and big victories. Lastly, do a happy dance to celebrate!
