I love that my own suffering and hardships brought out a strength in me that I didn't think I had. That it gave me courage to be compassionate to others who may also be struggling. In the face of fear, I chose hope. I am a survivor!
Today, despite your trials, you have something special to offer. It may simply be opening up the door for someone in a wheelchair, smiling to a stranger who stands in line behind you at the grocery store, or reaching out to a lonely friend who needs comfort. When we focus on helping others to be that shining light, we not only bless them, but we are blessed, too.
We take our eyes off of ourselves. We no longer fixate on our problems. We forgo the pity party. Instead of worrying about what we don't have or that life isn't going smoothly, we are grateful for what we do have and that we can make a positive impact in the world around us.
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God." 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV)
