Cultivating an attitude of gratitude begins with counting your blessings. In simpler terms, gratitude is expressing thanks for gifts we receive. When life gets hectic and you begin to feel overwhelmed, take a moment to focus on the people and things you are most grateful for.
When you have an attitude of gratitude other things will fall by the wayside. The more you are grateful for what you have the more you can live fully in the present. When you live in the present moment, the greater you can build stepping stones for a brighter future.
Being thankful helps you to take into account all of the positive in your life. It gives you a whole new perspective. You're able to appreciate the abundance God has blessed you with.
As a fan of journaling, I suggest compiling a weekly list of your gratitudes. You could start by jotting down at least five people or things you are grateful for. Write anything positive that comes to mind. Before you know it, your list will grow.
My Top 10 Attitudes of Gratitudes:
1) Reach out to those less fortunate.
2) Cherish time with family; play board games, cards, or look through photo albums.
3) Encourage someone with a sincere compliment.
4) Give warm hugs.
5) Lighten up with laughter and a good sense of humor.
6) Surprise your sweetheart with an old fashion love letter.
7) Enjoy the outdoors and sunshine; it's God's vitamin D for your body.
8) Give thanks daily for all God blessed you with.
9) Start your morning with prayer.
10) Pass love forward.
The saying, "Count your blessings", may sound rather cliche', but I think there's much truth to it. Where we direct our attention, we will grow. If our focus is dwelling on the good in life, we'll reap the sweet rewards.
By counting our blessings, we directly produce positive emotions of peace, joy, and hope. Most importantly, spend quality time with your friends and loved ones. Express how much they mean to you. Life is short. Treasure the fun-filled moments spent together.
Also, take time from your busy schedule to show your gratitude. Instead of jumping out of bed and rushing to tackle what's ahead of you, spend a few extra minutes with your eyes closed. Think of at least one thing you consider is a blessing. Let it radiate into your heart and soul.
Throughout the day and night, be aware of your countless blessings. Perhaps, you had a great hair day, found a perfect parking spot, or received an unexpected letter from a dear friend?
Next, get in tune with all of your senses; sight, touch, hearing, taste, and smell. Appreciate love, laughter, and kindness. Savor homemade dessert, beautifully scented flowers, or the first fallen snow.
Bask in the warmth of sunshine upon your face. Delight yourself in hearing the gentle rhythm of raindrops. Celebrate life as if it were your last day. Relish the simple moments, which transform an ordinary day into an extraordinary event.
